Coding
Chris Dixon wrote a blog post today titled “Who Should Learn to Program.” Obviously there is a ton of hype around this subject with Code Academy / Code Year, etc.
In my opinion, though, Chris hits the nail on the head with his usual clarity. His points about the value of coding from an educational standpoint for younger people seem spot on, as do his points about the merits of how it teaches you to think. My favorite part of his post, though, is his point about non technical people learning to code - that learning to code should be fun and teach you to see the world and your co-workers differently. Seems like the right way to think about it, as opposed to getting caught up in the hype and trying to turn yourself into something youre not.
